Change or replace an authentication factor

Moving to a new device replaces your authentication factor — here's how.

Updated September 14, 2026 · 1 min read

"Changing your authentication factor" in PTERI means moving your identity to a new device. If you still have access to your current device:

  1. Install the PTERI Wallet app on the new device
  2. Restore your identity using your recovery phrase or encrypted cloud backup — see recovering account access
  3. Sign an authentication message on the new device to prove control, then re-register it
  4. Once confirmed, treat the old device as no longer authoritative for this identity — if it's lost or you no longer trust it, see responding to a suspected compromised account

If you no longer have access to the current device or its backup, see MFA reset and recovery.
